Old Fashioned Gingerbread….

This recipe makes me think of a cool day by the fire place with a cup of hot tea after finishing running errands on Saturday. Of course, this only happens here in El Paso on a rare occasion so I have to be ready and take advantage of that day!

Dark Old Fashioned Gingerbread

I usually bake more than one of these at a time – one to serve and one to share with a friend.  I can drop this by your house after it cools. Would your family like this?  It is that good.  Just be sure to include the recipe.  They will ask anyway.  Share your recipes.  Remembering who gave me a recipe is as important as what it is I bake.

Refrigerate and keep this well sealed with foil until all the leftovers are gone.  Served
with Cool Whip or whipped cream with the zest of an orange in it is even better.

This is wonderful as dessert for Thanksgiving dinner.

Grandma Birdie’s Banana Bread

My father’s mother deserves at least her own blog title.  Talk about an amazing lady.  The post mistress of the town where everyone knew and loved her.  A little house that could hold more people than you could imagine and there was always room for one more.  I’ll be sharing a lot of stuff from Grandma Birdie with you along the way.  I  remember her tiny kitchen and the drawer that would swing out where she kept snacks.  It was lined with tin so she could store breads, cookies, and other treats.  We would eat at the little table in the kitchen as kids.  When we were in Kansas to remove all the personal items before the sale of her house, that drawer still had the same smell of all her fresh baked quick breads like banana, pumpkin and dill/onion.  Her kitchen always had ripening bananas in it.  A hint of good things to come.
